Ledgerlight started when a founder's aunt, who sells fabric in a Nairobi market, was paid in ORL and could not tell from the explorer whether the money had arrived. He wrote her a page that said who paid, how much and when, in plain words, and other traders soon asked for the link.
The round 4 grant paid for plain-language transaction pages, monthly statements and a view for merchants with daily totals. Ledgerlight now gets 1.2 million visits a month, and an Academy grant this quarter paid for the explorer in six languages.
