The story

Why Paywire exists

Paywire began in a Lisbon ceramics studio, where one of the founders sold mugs online and waited three days for every card payout. She wanted the money the moment a parcel left the shop, so she wrote a checkout that settled on Oriel instead.

The round 5 grant paid for checkout plugins on two shop platforms and for settlement in under two seconds. Today 2,300 shops use Paywire, and a second grant from round 6, $120,000, is paying for a refunds API.
